Mother’s Day Gift Guide

One of the beauties of sourcing gifts from our micro businesses and self employed artisans from across rural and island Scotland is that you can be sure the special people in your life are getting something as individual as they are. And you know you’re also supporting a small independent maker!

So instead of the usual flowers or chocolates this year, why not choose mum something from one of the following original and memorable ideas:

Urquhart Glass: fused glass dichroic and sterling silver studs

Mairi Urquhart is a maker of beautiful, colourful glass pieces, all crafted in her cosy, comfy studio.

These lovely little studs, which measure about 10mm across, would make a super gift for Mother’s Day, or for any friend or family member. Unique patterns are fused into the glass during making, so each piece os different. The sterling silver earring backs make them very comfortable to wear all day.

Available for £19.99 in a choice of gorgeous colours here.

Recycle Me Mosaics

As an artist, Katy uses the medium of mosaic to express her creativity. Her sustainable practice is both inspired by and incorporates any number of recycled and salvaged materials, including china and glass.

A series of 'quirky bird' mosaic designs were inspired by simply enjoying using recycled materials at hand, in this case, Katy's favourite blue handmade breakfast bowl bought in Barcelona, and vintage orange tiles.
